I'm currently looking at two r9 280x's, both cost about the same one being a Vapor-X while the other a Windforce 3x. The Windforce still is on warranty till December 2016 while the Sapphire variant only till march 2016. I'm unsure which one to pick up, both are in good condition. Kinda afraid of buying the Sapphire just for it to die after march. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance!

i believe the vapor x is better and cools better and it shouldn't fail so quick unless the owner used it for very heavy work loads

As you are asking this question it is probably best for your own sake buy the card with longer warranty - that comes with Windforce ;)

What would be the possibility of it just burning out and dying on me after purchase?

We get tons of equipment in our line of work both used and refurbished.

There is no definitive answer of how quickly it can die.

One simple step you could do if you can physically test it - would be - stress test the GPU.

There are some people trying to sell staff that *works*, however they trully have some faults.

Thus stress testing GPU just may say if the GPU is healthy at current time.

Because if it is healthy most likely the system you will be running it in, will either prolong or downgrade the graphics card lifespan.

Good luck mate with your decision :) But if there are doubts it is always best to buy new stuff. And be covered with warranty. Like R9 380 if you have the budget ;)
