So I got lazy and decided to turn off my PC with the power button. However now it does not load windows. When I turn on the system, everything powers on and the asus logo appears but then all I get is a blank screen. I looked in the bios and loaded the default settings but still, nothing happens. I looked at the boot order and the 1tb Wd drive is detected so I'm wondering what is wrong?

How would I retain the files on the hdd, and can I use the same windows 7 key as I did with the initial instal?

When mine corrupted I didn't really try to save any files. But it all depends on how much of it is corrupted. It's possible everything is corrupted so you cannot save any files anymore.

For the windows key: iirc you can use the key again yes.

If you have access to another Windows 7 PC, you can make a Windows 7 recovery disc and try that   -  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/create-a-system-repair-disc

Thats the best chance of getting it going without losing your files.
