How do you run programs faster?

dmeanor

I'm thinking of getting an SSD (250gb) and replace my Western Digital Blue HDD (500gb). Would it run programs like After Effects & Premiere Pro smoother?

when you switch to SSD it will just load faster, if you want to render faster, better get an i5 or i7 and a quadro gfx or a gtx 980 or a titan

If you mean loading the program and loading video is slow then sure get an SSD. However if you're having trouble scrubbing through the footage, have slow rendering, and the like than you may want to see what resources are being used up (e.g. CPU, GPU, RAM). From there we can talk about what kind of upgrades you might want based the task and current build

You gotta do you girl. I always say you gotta do you. And if he's doing him, then who's doing you? Because right now, it seems like no one's doing you.

Is changing the processor necessary?

I have this motherboard with built in cpu.

An SSD only really helps to load up programs faster and makes them more responsive. They do not however make programs 'smoother'.

Well, it runs everything faster, but doesn't speed up rendering. You would need an i5/i7 and a 970/980 to speed up that. Also, don't replace your HDD, just add in an SSD for more Storage+Performance :)

You would need to change the motherboard and make sure the socket is an LGA1150, if you want an i5 or i7 Haswell processor. Just make sure said motherboard supports DDR3 RAM (I imagine that is what you use)

SSDs will make loading programs, files, etc, more or less instantaneous. the operating system will boot in about 15 seconds. You will actually notice a very tangible increase in the responsiveness of your computer. Highly recommend that you grab one. So long as it's not a Kingston V300, you'll be grand. It won't increase performance in computational workloads, but it will certainly get rid of the bottleneck between the CPU and the HDD.

I just try to say motivating things to my programs to get them pumped and thus performing better.

You will see a MUCH bigger difference in performance if you upgrade to even something like an i3 or fx 6300 (better in this case) than by adding an ssd. Am1 cpus are very weak and thats certainly what is making rendering slow

~snip~

Hey there dmeanor,

SSDs generally have higher transfer speeds and much shorter access times so the whole system's performance should get improved. The computer becomes much more responsive, loading and boot times decrease and applications should run much smoother and better. :)
As the guys pointed out, the other abilities of the different software applications depend on the other hardware (CPU, GPU, memory, etc.) so I'd first check what does the software utilize best and then upgrade accordingly. :)

apparently yes you need to change your processor to a i7 4690k or higher, since you will be rendering. That amd cpu and mobo is no good you need to replace both
