i just updated my Signature for my rig specs. i have not run a 9750. i was running a Sapphire 7870 before i upgraded(also a very nice card). but most people on the forum say the 7950 can be overclocked to run in the same crowd as a 7970 stock. in my opinion though i would rather no OC a card to the max to equal another card, i prefer running a cool set up just cause i am cautious and  i have a monster Onkyo HT receiver i run my rig through that is like a freakin' space heater so i like to keep the heat down in my gaming room.

also im assuming you are not worried about Power, if you are looking into the 7990. the 7970 uses roughly 50 watts more than the 7950 at full load. but i found this link for you has some decent points http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/390572-33-7950-7970

I am pretty sure these are reference card they are comparing. i am running a dual x cooled no reference setup because i am not planning on watter cooling my GPU
