I have a pair of HD 439s for outside house currently. Went to an audiophile shop one day and tried a pair of open back headphones (forgot the name) and they sounded outstanding. So here I am today asking you guys on the forum what is a good pair of open back headphones which preferably don't blow a major hole in my wallet. What I have on my mind right now are the HD 558s

Depends on usage scenario, for gaming I would recommend the Audio Technica ATH AD700 and for music I would recommend other headphones

What about the both of them?

About 60% gaming 40% music?

Oh and do note I'm not a hardcore gamer so I don't really need exact audio positioning

Mmm even without the improved positional audio I would still always recommend them for gaming, they´re not horrible for music they´re just optimised for gaming. At the price point on Amazon they´re well worth the money and with your usage scenario I can´t think of any other candidates

Aaahhh I see your point. However I still find myself leaning towards the HD 558s since Linus LOVES his HD 555s and Slick with his HD 598s.

Haha fair enough, they´re great headphones I just like offering options where possible  ^_^.

Well then, thank you for your suggestions as they are much appreciated ^_^ Do you have any other options to offer though?

Beyerdynamic DT 880 are semi open, supposedly the best of both worlds, or the DT 990 are open.

+1 for the 990s

Well I would want fully open since I would just be using them for home. I'll take a look at the DT 990s thanks

The 250 Ohm Pro version have been on a really nice, low price point lately, and there's quite a few open box items on eBay (I'm super considering getting a pair myself).

If I had to pick a single opened backed headphone that was good and didn't break the bank..

AKG K240s

If you have a bit more and an amp ... Beyerdynamic DT990pro
