It's a solid CPU. It has very strong single threaded performance, and has 8 threads total. It is locked though. The 6700k version would perform slightly better since it is clocked higher and gives you the option to overclock.

Well, the 6700k is made of unobtainium here in germany. The only alternative to not having one is trading it for its weight in pure gold.

and we both damn well know you wont be buying a low end 1151 board w/ a i7

There's no reason why it wouldn't work just fine. Even then, Z170s are still cheaper than 2011v3 boards, at least in the US.
