gpu possibly underpowered?

Zenedge

i recently gave my friend an old hd7770 videocard.  it worked fine on my system, but he kept on saying that the amd drivers would crash when he would run some certain games(ac rogue, dota 2, skyrim)

i went to his pc and tried troubleshooting it.

when the gpu is in desktop(normal basic pc stuffs) there are no problems whatsoever. the drivers just crash when its in a graphically demanding game.

so i went into amd overdrive and lowered the core clock speed from the stock 1250Mhz to 1000Mhz. and the drivers dont crash anymore

i dont think the gpu is defective because it works fine in the desktop environment. could this be a psu problem?

his psu is a cheap chinese one

his old card was a r7 240. it was updated to the latest crimson drivers.  and since the hd7000 series also use the same drivers. i assumed that he wouldnt need to uninstall anything
