i7-3770 ... ebay or new?

Told my mum that I was gonna buy an i7-3770 off of ebay for £150 which I have saved

however she said don't buy off of ebay because it might have a shorter lifespan

she said she will buy it for me for the £270 off of amazon

Do you guys think it is better to buy it new? My dream PC costs £800, and this cpu is £300 - thats practically half my dream PC budget, might as well get the pc itself instead of a processor that is out of its time.

It's always better to buy new, i would only buy used if i need to buy something that the manufacturer has stop producing or if you don't have the money for the thing you want (and wont have the money for a while). In your case i would buy used.

Does it have to be lga 1155?

Yes, I have an ASRock H61 from a really shitty prebuilt PC and I'm upgrading it ... however turns out it will total £800, exact same as my dream Skylake build. However the timespan will be too long to last with this PC.

Thanks, thought I was the only one with this mindset.

Tbh i'd do it. For some reason CPU's don't die as fast as GPU's. Thats why scavenged CPU's from old builds keep working even after a decade of use.
