GTX 960 Power Issues?

Go to solution Solved by AlexWalters08,

So the issue is in fact my GPU, not sure exactly what broke inside it but I am going to RMA it. I put the card in my friends computer, after seeing it perfectly power his GTX 680 (Also has two 6 pin power), and I got the same error I have been getting.

So I have had a Gigabyte G1 Gaming edition 960 (2GB) for a while now, since June. It has never failed me and has worked flawlessly....until today that is. I got back from school, got on my computer, went to print something off, and a few minutes in my computer shuts it self down with no warning. I went to start it up and got the error, even before a post screen, saying "Please power down and connect the PCIe power cable(s) for this graphics card." The last time I was tinkering inside the case was 4 days ago, when I added a new HDD, so I don't think that was it... The Gigabyte G1 Gaming Edition of the 960 has two six pin power connectors, which are both plugged in and haven't been touched since the day I built my computer, months ago. My PSU is an EVGA NEX650 Supernova and my motherboard is an Asus z97-A. The other specs fall in my signature.

To get to the point, I am lost on how to fix this, and am hoping that my card is not shot, and at the most it is just a cable issue. *Also I already unplugged both six pin power cables on the GTX 960, and flipped them around, then plugged them into different places on the PSU, both of which did not help.*

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!

EDIT: I took out the GPU and plugged a VGA monitor into the motherboard and the integrated graphics on my CPU are working fine.

Should I try to change what PCIe slot the card is in?

Re-install the GPU in the same PCI-e slot, reconnect the power cables and try again.  Its possible there could have been a bad connection somewhere.  If it still doesn't work, try the card in a different slot if you have one avaliable.  If you still get the same error I'd probably start looking into returning the GPU if possible.

I have tried all of these, and still nothing. Do you think it is because of the power cables I am using? They are 6+2 pin cables, with the extra two pins not plugged into the card and just pushed aside, leaving only the 6 pin parts plugged in to the GPU.

The 960 only uses the 6pin for the extra power req.the other 2 are not used.

Yes, the 2 pins are not plugged in, but are attached to the cable.

Are the PCIe connectors properly connected on both ends? When I say both ends I mean at the PSU and at the graphics card. And the NEX series of PSUs isn't exactly quality... If all else fails replace that.

Yes, the 2 pins are not plugged in, but are attached to the cable.

You don't need to worry about those two extra pins.

I would say try the GPU in another computer if possible, any computer will do.

If it works then you need to look at your PSU.

It's not a race to the bottom.

I have contacted Gigabyte support, waiting for a response.

My friend is going to bring over his power supply, because all the other computers in my house are either gutted, or laptops.
