Help on choosing a GPU

Hey guys, I'm in the market for possible getting a new video card. At the moment I have the HIS IceQ x2 R9 280x. I'm just looking for suggestions on what is the best video card for the money as I'm not overly flush with cash. I'm don't prefer AMD over nVidia or vice versa, I just prefer the better card . Any suggestions are appreciated.

2 280x honestly should last you for a while still if you're playing on 1080p and even 1440p. I'd wait until AMD and Nvidia come out with their new cards.

I went with Zotac GTX 980ti amp extreme and I really recommend it

I also dont have that much of cash but it is worth the investment

I'm not sure there's a Z board that can't :lol: , but you can check the manufacturers site to be sure.

So theoretically if I could do crossfire, would it be compatible with all games or are there drawback to it. Would I have to get the exact same gpu for crossfire or could I choose something else. Also would I need a bigger psu?

Crossfire is not compatible with all games, any 280x or GPU with the same chip is compatible to crossfire, and your powersupply is fine.

 

Crossfire is not plug and play, it takes a bit of work but that work is fun in itself. But it's always better to have one powerful card over two lesser cards.

Sigh I don't know what to do, I'd like to get whatever I get on either Black Friday or cyber Monday. What games is Crissfire not compatible with and is it even worth it to go crossfire?

I had crossfire and got rid of it, my 390 can max every game I've played so didn't need it.

390 is equivalent to a 980?

No, a 390 is as good as high tier 970 but with twice the VRAM. I'm very partial to the Sapphire, best backplate ever.

So it maxes out all your games? Which games are your most demanding ones?

Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 are the most demanding that I have found. Both run on max settings in 1080p using a 390

That is good to hear, which card are you using exactly and is there another that you would reccomend over your existing card?

I'm using a Sapphire Nitro 390 OC edition with a back plate. I personally think it's the best 390 you can buy and if you can find one cheaper it's usually within 15 bucks so I don't see a reason to get a lesser card to save how much lunch can cost.

The 280x is still a great GPU. I worked for a developer that has a relationship with Nvidia and all the guys there loved the 280x. So I wouldn't worry too much. And if you decide to sell the 280x you should get a good price for it.
