post-234507-0-29450500-1448384461_thumb.My USB Flash Drive has been missing a crucial part... The top of my USB plug (no idea how it is called) has mysteriously vanished. The data in there are crazy important to me for a school project.. Is there a quick and safe solution to repair it by using parts from another USB or most importantly is there a way for me to recover my data in its current state ????

If the 4 connectors are still there, you don't need the housing.  Example: this will work fine:

kingston-datatraveler-mini-slim-usb-flas

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

You lost the actual connector itself? Best bet is to find a computer store that has the capabilities to solder on a new USB connector. If the board itself is damaged, might be a bit tricky.

Done

Yeah you lost the connector. You can solder a new one on but i would have someone skilled in this to do it. If you mess up you are done.

I would like to think that the board is ok... I just need a quick solution to extract my data for a school project as mentioned

The problem is that the full coverage of the usb port is gone.... I can only see the bare usb stick inside the plastic...

oh... well, if you can solder a new connector on to the right spot, it should work again, but that's assuming no other part was lost, and that you can do that without damaging it.

To be honest in my city i dont think they can repair it quick enough so I am willing to take a risk.....

In that case, first you'll need general soldering skill, there should be plenty of youtube videos for that.  Next, you'll want to try and find out which wires go where.  There will be 2 data wires and 2 power wires (+ and -).  The locations will likely be unique to your device so I'm not sure you'll find examples of others doing it, but it's possible there are people who have shown doing this whole process in general, perhaps on a different flash drive.

That is what we're all worried about though - we're not saying it's dangerous because you could mess up the physical remainder of the drive - that much is assumed.  We're saying if you mess up this solder and recovery job, there will be basically no hope getting that data back even if the chips are not technically damaged themselves.

I visited an IT expert hoping for the best...
