Ok i have been planing for my next build, and i am really torn on what to get,i was thinking 2x 390's but people have been saying i should get a 980ti,but i am reluctant.

I will be using a 1920x1200 screen, and would like to get over 60fps on ultra on most games, but don't want any drops below 50fps.

Now i am reluctant to go Nvidia because of what i have gone through with them,4 of the 9 nvidia cards i had in the last 10 years died on me ,"7300gt/7600gs/8500gt/9600gt" and on my GTX460 SE and my most recent sli 970's i had driver crashing problems,i never fixed the driver crashes on the 460,but i had to up the power limit on the 970's to get rid of that, and that was at stock.

The Nvidia cards i have never had problems with and are still alive are an 8400gs,gt240 and a gt430.

I have had 1 ati card(hd4650) and 2 amd cards(7970 and 270x) i have never had driver crashes with them, and the only one that is dead,is because a liquid cooler pissed on it.

What do you guys think i should go with? My GPU budget is $600-$800

Not sure the problem with the 970s in SLI were? what is your PSU? 1 970 should easily do any game at 60fps at 1080p. BF4 ULTRA no AA (100-150fps) GTAV Ultra no msaa (50-78fps) TW3 Ultra (50-80fps)

if you got $600-800 i'd go for the 980Ti (best single card). remember to wipe your drivers when installing a new card.

What are the rest of your PC specs?

To crossfire 390s you better have your case ventilation down to a science, and I mean science. One fan can mean the difference in 10c easy. 10c can mean the difference between over heating and running normally. If you like to tinker with stuff crossfire is a blast as you spend more time playing with fan placements than playing games.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

I don't have that system anymore i had to sell it for a down payment on a car, because my car i had was dying, but i will building a this build early next year.

On that system i had an EVGA G2 750w, and with sli on GTA 5 i had to turn off the advanced settings, and turn down the AA i was using and it was still getting drops under 50fps,and was hitting 3.8GB Varm at 1200p and 3.65GB vram at 1080p.

Xfire 390, a good psu (if you dont have an evga gs/g2/b2 850w, any seasonic 850w should do the job) and some static pressure fans should do the job (nf-f12, nf-p12)

If this helps here is the system i planned.

I was going to put the GPU's in the 1st and 3rd pci-e x16 slots.
I was thinking 1000w,because pcpartpicker said it would be 830w so i wanted some wiggle room.

My MAX budget should be around $2200 but i will have to save up and try to sell some stuff to get that much.

Do you think the case will have enough cooling? or what should i do to the case fan wise?

Cooling is like overclocking, everyone's experience will be different and what is acceptable to me might be overkill to you. My advice is try different configurations and install as many fans as your budget and case allow and this will make them quieter as they run at a lower RPM and gives you the ability to try more configurations than a few fans would allow. But I'm a temperature Nazi.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

y that case is amazing, a friend of mine is using it.

i had that case with my last system and loved it,so it has enough cooling to help keep 2 390's cool? Or should i get some more fans?

I don't mind fan noise that much, even more so when i have headphones on,temp wise i don't like my GPU going any higher than 87 on max load, and my cpu no higher than 75-80 max load.

I had this case with my last rig on stock config and a h100i and 2 strix 970's set at auto fan speed and it was not that bad to me noise wise.

the cooling should be ok (the stock case fans). you could also take 2 noctua nf-f12 or nf-p12 to create more static pressure, but it should be ok.

here is what i was thinking, have 2 noctua nf-f12's one on the bottom for intake, the other replaces the fan on the back as exhaust, and last i was thinking of getting 4x noctua nf-a14's and doing push pull on the x61.

What do you think? or is there a better/cheaper way?

push/pull is not a must, i think you could get away with only pull or push
