Just got a new laptop that has an i7-5500u, 16 gigs of ram and a gtx 850m with 4gb vram.

just wanted to know if i can overclock the cpu and gpu? i dont want to wreck my laptop.

any help is appreciated.

 

Go into the laptop's BIOS and see if you can change any values.

It's advised you do not overclock on a laptop. They have limited thermals as it is, but overclocking could make the components overheat.

I wouldn't overclock a laptop.

then why do i see so many posts of people saying they overclock laptops all the time? they say they're systems are stable.

I didn't say they couldn't overclock, and it depends on the laptop itself - some have better thermals than others. Components can be stable while running at high temperatures, as long as they're not hitting TJ Max.
