Hi, I am wondering if my MSI R9 270X is worth upgrading to an MSI R9 390. I play at 1440p and the 270X gets usually between 45-55 fps on high. I am wondering if the 390 is going to be a big performance difference or if I should just save up a little more and get a better card, maybe a 980 ti! I know most of you are going to say get the 980ti but I really want a new card that I don't have to spend every dollar I have on. My build is a i7-4790k at stock, an EVGA G2 850w, an an msi z97 gaming 5 mobo. Let me know if you need anything else! Thanks!

A 980 Ti will kill 1440p gaming, but a cheaper 390X could be a very viable option with performance comparable to that of a GTX 980.

Intel Core i7-6700K | Corsair H105 | Asus Z170I PRO GAMING | G.Skill TridentZ Series 16GB | 950 PRO 512GB M.2

Asus GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB STRIX OC | BitFenix Prodigy (Black/Red) | XFX PRO Black Edition 850W

I know the 980ti will absolutely demolish 1440p but its so expensive! And i've been looking up 390 vs 390x and there is almost no difference, is this information wrong? is the 390x really a lot better?

Consider it this way: A 390 is roughly equivalent to a 970, a 390X is roughly equivalent to a 980. I would go for the 390X because of the extra performance, but from a value standpoint, the 390 is much better, especially for your needs. I would recommend a MSI or SAPPHIRE R9-390.

If you get lucky with overclocking potential the 390x can be better, but that aside it's not worth the extra money in my opinion. Maybe once the 390x comes down in price like the 290x did they'll be a better choice.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
