Moar GPU driver crashes

Go to solution Solved by App4that,

I happen to already have MSI Afterburner, but have no experience overclocking GPUs, how much should I bump up the voltage by?

Max out the power limit, see how far it goes. Then add to the Core Voltage.

The 390/x GPUs are really good about letting you know the boundaries of the relationship lol. Try max power limit and 1100mhz, set the core voltage to 25%. I've had really good luck with those settings on them.

Yes, it's safe. MSI Afterburner limits how far you can go.  By raising the power limit, it allows the card to draw a little more power, which can help with stability.

Alright. Ran Fire Strike, not extreme or ultra, just Fire Strike. And no crashes using the modified MSI Afterburner settings. GPU temps went no higher than 85c during the test.

I got a score of 5705

Edit: Correction: I ran Fire Strike Extreme, thought I ran Fire Strike, but I was wrong.

85c is a little hot mate. Set the temperature limit in Afterburner to like 78c.  And make a custom fan curve as well.

Mind you, that's with a stress test running at 1440p. I've never actually seen it go over 80c with normal Gaming usage.

Personally i prefer to my gpu temp at or under 80c during a stress test.

I personally have my GTX 980's temp limit set to 75c.

Running standard fire strike netted me a score of 11550, and max GPU temp of 80c.

No crashes.

I'd check out your case ventilation with those temps. If you have a spot for a intake fan blowing up towards the GPU try and use it. See if that helps.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

I'm not too worried about temps right now, much less enough to go about unscrewing things and remounting them. I'll buy a couple of case fans on payday and mount them in the top to blow down to the GPU.

That went really bad for me when I tried it. Raised my GPU temps by 10c. I was trying to run fresh air over the CPU radiator and the only place I can mount it is in the top of the case. Once I put the intake to blowing up the GPU temp plummeted. I never reach the 60s even when gaming now.

I'll find a way to make it work. All else fails, I'll stop running my fans so low.

@Fulgrim

@App4that

Thank you both for your help. It appears that this has fixed my driver crashing issues, and will save me many headaches and anger in the future.
