1440p @ 100hz+

Colomon84
Go to solution Solved by HeathCliff,

1. I play Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen, Fallout 4, hoping to get Witcher 3 soon, Far Cry series, Crysis, Total War series, and some alphas like Rust and Space Engineers.  MMOs are big thing too.

2. I may wait for that Asus release then, didn't know they were coming out with one.  (I'm picky when it comes to power button LEDs and such)

This is mainly speculation, but if newer DX12 games are able to utilize the CPU more, having an i7 may be a good investment, but remember, this is speculation.

As for the monitor: http://www.cnet.com/uk/products/asus-rog-swift-pg348q/

So my new build has unknown video card/s at the moment since I'm determined to wait until the new series of GPUs get released sometime in 2016, but I am buying the next top end cards for either single or dual card set up.

However, to prepare for that I'm going to start my build with some RAM, MOBO, CPU

Right now I'm looking into the i7-6700k with EVGA Z170 FTW with Corsair Dominator Plats 32gb @ 2666mhz (I know these are overpriced but I want them for aesthetics)

For monitors I'm debating between a Predator X34 @ 100hz OR Asus pg279q @ 165hz

My questions:

1. Will this RAM, CPU, MOBO be a good foundation for 1440p gaming at high frame rates?

2. Will those two monitor choices work for me whichever way I decide to go?

3. Any recommendations on RAM that looks just as good as the Dominator Plats? (Kingston Fury/Crucial Ballistix?)

4. Would a i7-5820k and an X99 Board be a better foundation?

5. Any other opinions or recommendations are appreciated!!  :D

Here is the test build right now : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/vXrQkL

in game a i7 5820k wouldnt benifit you i wouldnt consider it unless you plan on 3 way sli or a pcie SSD and 2 way sli :) considering the 6700k gives better gaming performance but lacks the lanes for all the pcie slots :) just keep that in mind :D

i7 4790k 4.5 Ghz, XFX DD R9 290 until the Fury x2 release, 16 Gb HyperX fury, 850w G2, 128 Gb M.2 850 EVO, 250 Gb SATA 850 EVO, 2 Tb SSHD, Razer H440

Ehh, I would just go with the skylake processor since most components are headed that way. And you would definitely be able to run this with those components, but if I were you I'd come up with the build all at the same time when Pascal comes out, something new might come out you never really know.

1) Depends on the games that you will be playing. If it's something like Arma 3 which is very CPU intensive, then it can affect the frame rate.

2) Same as before. Depends on your scenario. Asus will soon be releasing thier variant of a curved 34" gaming monitor, so there's that to look forward to, but as for your choices, both are great monitors.

3) Aesthetics are a personal choice. I love the DomPlats, but keep in mind, ram is ram. So the cheapest matching colour ram should suffice.

Dude.. Going to say what I said yesterday, The Plats are stupidly overpriced. Look into some Kingston, G.SKILL, Klevv and plenty others. RAM Is not the best thing to spend extras money on.

I do have a M.2 ssd and 2 sata SSds in my build as well.  Does that change anything if I'm doing 2 way sli?

i was told that the chipset can deal with the M.2 ssd although i cant confirm this so if you want to take the risk then go for it. but if you dont wanna risk it get the 5820k.

The Kingston Fury would be my next choice or some Crucial Ballistix but I haven't really heard anything about Crucial for RAM??

As it is not yet released, I can't make the decision.

Question: Can I buy a 4x8gb kit for a dual channel mobo? Things on the internet are confusing when it comes to dual channel quad channel.... Or do I have to buy two 2x8gb kits for the 4 dimm slots?

Yes, four dimm slots means four sticks of RAM 2x8 is honestly the same as 4x8, it's like buying a bundle

I would get the 5820K with a good Motherboard like the ASUS Extreme or MSI Godlike

I would get the ASUS PG348Q, the ACER Predator X34 has many issues and is not worth it.
