So I've done some research on this already and it's looking like any of three things.

  1. The GPU is overheating
  2. CPU fan seated improperly or not enough/too much thermal paste
  3. One of the PSU rails is overloading

I haven't actually tested for any of these yet (it's not my PC, I'll have access to it later however, to see exact specs). It is just cutting off as if someone pulled the plug or held the power button. For the first issue I can run Furmark (how long and what settings?), and for the second I can run AIDA64 or Prime95 (again how long and what settings? though it might just be easier to replace thermal paste and reseat the fan irregardless). How will I be able to determine the third, without an extra PSU to test with? i.e. if it powers off during the Furmark test, how would I determine if it's the GPU or the PSU?

Try only using some sticks of memory. Then go from there.
