Hello

I want to upgrade my system, and I really need some advice:

Current Specs

CPU cooler:

be quiet! Dark Rock Advanced C1

GPU:

GiBy2GB D5 X HD7870 OC GHZ Edition R

CPU:

Intel Core i5-4570 3.2 clocked to 3.6(or 3.4 didn't check sorry) can't do more since it's not unlocked.

SSD:

1 x 128GB 520/550 SP900

Mobo:

MSI Z87-G43

Ram:

D3 8GB 1600-999 Ripjaws

HD's:

2 x 500GB

PSU:

650 watt (6 years old :D)

Screen:

Samsung SyncMaster 2233 (Native: 1680*1050, 120hz)

Option 1:

Evga Geforce GTX 980 TI Superclocked ACX 2.0+ - EUR 689,13

(Don't know which brand is best yet, teach me. Also given the Amazon sales next week, this might drop a little just like the rest.)

Option2:

GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming 4G, 4GB GDDR5 - EUR 298.-

CPU: Core i5-6600K - EUR 240.-

Mobo: ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING (LGA 1151, Intel Z170, ATX) - EUR 144.-

Ram: Corsair Vengeance LPX (2x 8GB, DDR4-3000, DIMM 288) - EUR 120

This would all cost me: EUR 802.-

I can invest EUR 880, if it makes sense to invest a little more I'm okay with that aswel.

I'm not sure what the smartest decision is. Some say my CPU is plenty enough and the 980ti will do just fine.

Others say, Nvidia will release Pascal next year so getting the 970 while upgrading the rest makes more sense to them.

My goal would be to have my peace for a couple years without needing to upgrade. I want to play my games on Ultra for as long as I can. My current spec carried me for years, it's pretty crazy. I got an old screen and don't really care about 4k gaming, yet?!

Maybe I can get a 970 and a new screen aswel, seems like the worst option. Even tho I would like 2 screens :D

  1. Your CPU will do fine for years to come.
  2. 980ti with a screen resolution of 1680x1050 is a waste of money.

Get a new screen and go for the 970.

Edit: After that, if you have money left, go for another 8gb of ram. Not really necessary yet, but its the next upgrade option for you.

Not really any point in upgrading to a DDR4 platform as you won't see any significant improvements over your current system. You said you may be interested in a new monitor and you're willing to put 880 Euro towards upgrading, I would go with a 390X or 980 and something like the Asus VG248QE.

980 ti plus 4-8gb more ram

980ti is a big waste for that resolution and 8GB of RAM is easily enough nowadays but a nice upgrade tho
