A good build?

lachyman

Hey guys, 1st thing would be sorry for repost but I tought it would be good to make a new topic to keep things tidy. I just spoke with one of my regulars which I am building a PC for, he said that it will probably be 1st or second week of september. Budget is €950, but the less the better since he found a build used for a few months with 3570K and a 660, for €850. Target would be FPS games. So I came with a €890 build and would like to see what do you think and what would you change. Last thing: No waiting for the 9XXX series!

Here are the specs:

AMD FX8320 with CM Hyper 212+EVO

MSI 990FXA-GD80 (I know it is an overkill, but he wants a MSI board and USB 3.0)

Kingston HyperX X2 2x4GB

MSI HD7950 TF III

Seagate Barracuda 1TB (SSD will be added down the road)

OCZ ZT 750W(Safety for upgrades)

Corsair C70 (He really loves the military design)

My rig: CPU: Intel core i5 4670K MoBo: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast 2x4GB 1600mhz CL9 GPU: EVGA GTX780 SC ACX SSD: ADATA Premier Pro SP900 256GBHDD: Western Digital RED 2TB PSU: FSP Aurum CM 750W Case: Cooler Master HAF XM OS: Windows 8 Pro

My Build log, the Snowbird (heavy WIP): http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/188011-snowbird-by-lachy/?hl=snowbird

Looks awesome, I personally love the parts selected. The only thing I would change is a higher quality PSU, like a seasonic 650w or something as 750 is overkill and the cx750m is the lowest end Corsair you can get.

I will consider the PSU, but both the CPU and GPU are not a compelling value, since I will OC the 7950 to 7970 level for €100 less, similiar with the CPU.

Ok with the CPU but you might not be able to OC the 7950 to 7970 and you can also overclock the 7970, the build I showed you is the same price as what you chose.

Well definitely not in my country...I checked it and it was way more expensive, also the PSU doesn't ship here, so I decided to stick with HX650/750.

EDIT: Price with 7970 would be more than €1000, you could also check the site I am buying from: www.alza.sk in the top right corner you can switch the language to english

Actually I just found this OCZ ZT 750W for just €90. Is this a good PSU?

Just a small advice, look into their warranty when buying stuff like this (unless you're going to mod it which will void it).

But personally, I would prefer corsair over OCZ just because I bought a mouse from the OCZ and it was dead after a year...

In any case, the specs seems good.

For how many watts to buy .. I would get 750 because I know that AMD uses more Watts compared to Intel and Nvidia for their CPU and GPU, so in the long run if you were to upgrade another GPU, you won't need to upgrade your PSU again.

Ok thanks, I think it is OK if they guarantee 5 years lifetime, also the agressive yellow "warning" theme looks badass with this military themed build. If I am the one to build it I will surely make some pics for a build log. Thanks again.

Well half of those things don't even ship to my country and I would not agree anyway, because of the CPU, Mobo and case. As I said before he loves military design so he has to get the C70, also the FX8320 is priced similiary as your APU, we want to OC it too. I will probably stick with the system I suggested, unless somebody makes a better system with a 7970 for €900-950 with same other components, the last thing I would like to make concrete solid would be the PSU. Please check the site we are buying from, currently I am for OCZ ZT 750W. Thanks

Thanks for your input, you've got a nice build there, I already put some items on the final list, but how I look at it we need a GD80 board, because that's the only MSI board with USB3.0 header, which he will be using a lot. Also he wants that MSI card too, because it is one of the few with a good design. We want to heavy OC it too. Also the PSU looks like it's non-modular = horror for every builder. Currently I can invest into a €60 SSD or €90 CPU cooler. What would you recommend?

Skip the cpu cooler.

My question is why Msi? There are other good brands as well.

I could say we are fanboys because we have owned their products for over 9 years, the second thing is that OC goes trough OC Genie, which is a dream to work with. Asus is considered too, but I never overclocked on Asus boards.

Asus along with other mobos are just as easy to work with as Msi. I wouldn't recommend Oc'ing through oc genie though--ClickBios 2 is better.

And is investment into Sabertooth worth it? It looks badass but the PRO R2.0 is €35 cheaper.
