hello,

My firm ordered 2 myclouds, each for 1 user only. And they can be connected to a network to work.

My question is, how can i connect them directly to the PC? Will this work : http://www.edimax.com/edimax/merchandise/merchandise_detail/data/edimax/global/network_adapters_usb_adapters/eu-4306/

Other solution is the crossover cable but i cant use that cause PCs only have 1 ethernet, and users here ownt agree to constantly loosing internet to transfer something to the disc...

Well it kinda strange cofiguring network disk for 1 user when there are 400 working here.

Firstly they are morons.

Second, they will ask so much question when they see im not connecting it to their PC, and when they take it home, they wont know what to do.

Buy any gigbit lan card and use it, additionally I would highly suggest just putting them on your network, you'll be so much more happy later on.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Hey there Caliph,

WD My Cloud is a NAS (Network Attached Storage) product rather than a DAS (Direct Attached Storage) as it says on the website and on the box. NAS devices always work through your router/switch and are accessible over the network compared to DAS devices (thumb drives, portable external HDDs, etc.) which are plugged directly to your computer. NAS devices can be connected directly to the computer via a network (LAN) cable but you need quite a lot of tinkering in the settings. :)
Connecting the NAS directly to the computer would require you to use a network cable and would disable the internet connection to that computer.

I would simply advise you to return (if possible) the NAS devices and replace them with simple DAS ones (like the WD My Book for example: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=qLjBEJ ) :)

If this helped you, like and choose it as best answer - you might help someone else with the same issue. ^_^

Well since it's not our product I can't really say. You can contact the manufacturer of this product and ask specifically for NAS devices and the WD My Cloud. You can also simply look online if anyone else has experience with this. :)
