Hello LTT's!

I got a problem. I have a notebook. A Toshiba Sattelita L50-B-15U to be exact. Whenever I play simple games (that don't need much CPU or GPU power) I get normal fps around 60/80 fps when i'm in a lobby. But when i'm placed in a match the fps drops to 30/40. I tried to lower the settings and the resolution, update and reinstall my drivers but that didn't help. Does anyone know what is causing the problem?

Notebook specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5 4200U

RAM: 8GB

GPU: AMD R7 M260
HDD: 1TB

Thanks in advance!

The graphics card is pretty bad. That's the problem.

How much space do you have on your HDD? Try cleaning it up. The gpu is old but nothing special. It is a normal case to be put in an online match and lose fps on the way.

When I play Battlefield 4 on low/medium I don't get fps drops. But when I play a very simple game it puts load on my CPU. The GPU seems fine to me.

The lobby drop is standard. You got it for every game. Your computer doesn't actually have to do anything while just showing a lobby screen so your fps will be high.
I got like hundreds when I am in the CS Lobby an ingame I only got around 70.
You should think of an update of your computer in general. Laptops are not really designed for gaming (and that's what you want to do) ands that's why they don't have very strong graphic cards. Your's is not very good so you wont have a lot of fps in more demanding games!

If your CPU or GPU is used also depends on the game. Fallout 4 takes most of my CPU to run and leaves my graphic card almost untouched while ark barely uses the CPU and eats away my GPU.

I don't know if thats the case everytime but it could be a part of the problem.

I'm only using my notebook if i'm going somewhere else. The problem is: On every other game like SMITE, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty etc. i won't get any FPS drops. but when I launch that specific game it drops a lot when i'm in match. My cpu will run at 50%/80% and then the FPS will drop. I changed the game so it runs only on my GPU but my CPU will still run at 50/80%. I have around 600GB free space on my HDD. I checked my notebook on viruses and malware but nothing has been found. This didn't happen before (2 months ago). I even changed the settings of the game from 1080 high to 720 low but nothing has changed.

When you say it didn't happen before are you talking about his game or other games? Because like I said, the game could just be poorly programmed but if it already worked fine with this specific game it could be a total different issue. Hard to tell though... You might install it on another computer to see if it's the games fault, if not, than I can't help you. Sorry :/

It didn't happen before in that specific game. Everything worked fine before. I also tried it on my other two computer but it worked fine there (they're a bit overpowered for that game lol). The thing is since I installed the game again (4 days ago) it started to lag and got a lot of FPS drops. I took a look on the forums but they didn't change anything to the game except for changing server issues in other regions (America and Asia).

Since I don't know which game you are talking about I just list some things that I did in order to get several games running again after reinstallation failed.

They might or might not work so don't get to excited:

1) Make sure you have the newest driver. Download the one from the original homepage not from some second hand source. Second hand sources often do not use the newest verison although the claim to do exactly that.

2) Watch the temperature of your CPU and GPU. Although a game might be simple (I for example love to play old Point and Clicks on ScumVM) it can cause a huge performance issue. Monkey island on in my case needs more of my CPU than ARK does although it's from 199something! If somethings overheats and therefore reduces the performance after several minutes it might just seem as if it where a framerate drop because of the lobby/online thing.

3) Fixes for different games I had problems with: Might work for yours too:

3.1) League of Legends

Make sure that you have enough space not only on your HDD but also on the partition it is installed on. I made a mistake of reinstalling it on the wrong partition and than some adobe thing used all the space for prerendering and I got sudden frame drops without knowing whats going on.

3. 2) Rust

I got Rust over Steam and it somehow got confused when I changed the Steam folder. When I got my SSD I tried to move the Steam folder on it, so it would be faster so I just deleted all the games and Steam and let them redownload in the new location. What I didn't know was, that Steam left some pars still on my computer, even though I uninstalled everything. So the game worked perfectly in the lobby but when I entered a server it tried to use some orther files from my HDD and the frames droped. To avoid that, make a clear uninstallation that even deletes the reg entries with RevoUninstaller or some similar program. (be carefull it will delete EVERY Steam related filme on your PC even the other games.)

3.3) DayZ

This is the one thing that I never quite understood. After reinstallation it didn't work but after a while it did again. Maybe it was an Alpha related thing.

3.4) EA-Stuff

Problem I got with CnC Renegade and CnCZero Hour was my USB-Mouse. Whenever I plugged it in, my game started lagging ingame (although the lobby worked fine). Without the mouse it was much better.

Most problems I had were related to LoL but there are a lot of videos on YouTube where they explain you how to fix that.

Hope some of that Stuff is helpful, you can at least try
