Fallout, where to begin?

Go to solution Solved by iiNNeX,

I'd honestly just start with 4. The game is miles better than 3 or NV, both in looks and mission/map layout.

Hi y'all,

I have been meaning to start playing Fallout, since I really like RPG's.

I was wondering where I should start (3, New Vegas or 4)? As in, does it matter like with The Witcher or Mass Effect, or do previous games have absolutely nothing to do (story-wise) with the later games?

Are there any benefits to the gameplay of Fallout 4 to playing 3 and New Vegas first?

Thanks

They all share common points, but the order you play them in isn't really important.

I'd still go FO3-> NV-> FO4

Okay thanks, I'm probably going to skip 3 and New Vegas then. I still need to play ME3, The Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 before ME Andromeda and Rise of the Tomb Raider are here.

I have such a difficult life ^^.

Why no love for the classics? The only reason you'd want to play the previous titles is for the story. I started with fallout 2 and to this day I still think it would be a worthwhile playthrough for modern gamers because of the story. You'll get get that longing in your eyes when you hear of the G.E.C.K. As it draws you back to your time spent with fallout 2. There are however some video that explain the overall story line from all the fallouts but there are plenty of bits that it can't fit in. I doubt anyone has the time to go back and play the previous games right now, so in that case just get the summary and be done with it, but if you do have the time then give the classics a go.

SNIP

I agree the classics are great games but they might not be the best start for a new player, I would say get the latest game, and if you love it, then go back and play the classics

its not like you really need to now the back story to understand 4, but they might appreciate things more by going back and seeing how the series progressed and all the unique stories and characters they missed

Why you already pick right answer?!?! :'(

Anywho, start with FA4. Unlike ME previous game decisions have no effect between games. If you like it go back to 3 and NV (I like 3 over NV but 4 over both). The graphics and bugs of the previous two might turn you off the series if you are use to current gen titles. Mods can fix a lot of it but not many good HD texture packs for FA like there is for Skyrim :/
