USB Power / Resources

Hi all hopefully this is in the correct spot in the forums. My question is does a USB extension cable use power / computer resources when nothing is plugged into the other end of the cable on my computer, ive got the cable plugged into a USB slot in the motherboards IO shield and the other end of the cable is up next to my monitor to use for my USB devices. The image below shows a cable similar to myne, mynes just different brand and colour.

No, there is no connection between any of the leads on the USB cable, so it is essentially just a USB port.

You could always find a way to measure the small power lost in extending the cables. There is always voltage drop based on distance and size of the wire. In short, no power is being draw just a VERY small amount being loss. Nothing you could ever notice! :)
