Which part is causing these freezes?

So as I am using a custom built gaming PC (of course) I need help diagnosing which component is causing my system to freeze so I can send it in for an RMA. Freezes are seemingly random although they are getting more frequent. Symptoms of crash: Screens stay on and peripherals stay powered, but the computer stops responding to any input. Case fans also stay powered. Case reset switch does nothing although the case power button does cold kill the system, which temporarily fixes the issue.

 

Systems specs:

Windows 10 Pro

i7 4790K 

Asrock Z97 Extreme3

16GB Corsair vengeance DDR3

EVGA GTX 660

PNY optima SSD w/ seasonic 5400RPM HDD

EVGA 750B2 power supply

1. disconnect the HD and play/use.

2. disable all of the sound drivers you are not using. play/use.

Never underestimate audio and their parent drivers.

Audio drivers? I totally did not expect that, i thought it was going ot be either the GPU or motherboard. I will try that though.

I had to change the bitrate on my sons computer to just be able to run the starwars beta. Oo the was a fun time.

Also for my audio devices are showing that I have intel display audio, NVIDIA HD audio, and realtek HD audio. Is having multiple audio drivers installed causing my issue?

Ok so if the issue is my audio drivers, what do I do? I can't live without sound forever

Disable all but one that's connected to your headphones and see if it helps.

Make sure they are updated as well.

i really doubt that has something to do with the freezing of your screen, what you could is run the video from your MOBO to see if its your videocard.

whatever you are using for sound, disable everything else. personally I like to use the onboard to diagnose problems like this. and yes, a sound driver conflict can lock your screen.

Sound wasn't the issue. i disabled all of my drivers and it just froze again.

Although wait. I disabled my drivers except the one for the headset I am using. A few days later, it froze but now whehn I booted it back up again my sound wasn't working and I had to re-enable my turtle beach headset drivers. T

disconnect your hard drive. if you have onboard graphics pull the card and hook to the MB. reboot and set up bios for the changes. do some stuff that would normally cause the freeze ups.

I think it is probably my GPU. Started being able to play videos of any kind (sony vegas preview, youtube, windows media player...). Just freeses on the first frame. This would be another indication of a graphics card issue, correct? If so im just gonna deal with it until I get my graphics card upgrade I was planning on anyway
