My best friend has a netbook I gave her its getting up in age at this point and its been blue screening ALOT I told her that id reformat it tomorrow to see if it fixes things. I wanted to run some general testing software to see if its anything hardware related. mind you this is a very lop end laptop running xp still so im not needing anything super high end you would use for testing a gaming machine just general stability testing, what shall I use?

The BIOS often has an option to run a full hardware scan, try accessing the BIOS and navigating that option. You can also run a couple tests through the OS on main components such as the HDD and RAM.

 

To run a HDD scan open up the command prompt as Admin and type the following command:

 

'CHKDSK' this will do a thorough scan of the hard disk

 

You can also search for 'memory diagnostics' in the start menu and run the memory test.

 

Hopefully these help you out, try googling the blue screen error as well, for all you know it could just be the components overheating. I recommend you run these tests over night as they can take a while.

I will see if shes okay with that, any specific stress tests you recommend? I have only used prime95 , other then that its been stuff my friend has used when hes helped me on OCs

I will see if shes okay with that, any specific stress tests you recommend? I have only used prime95 , other then that its been stuff my friend has used when hes helped me on OCs

Prime95 is all I got, but I wouldn't make running a stress test a priority at this point, not until we run the scans
