Hello Linus Tech Tips Community,

I need to ask an opinion on what I should do as I have received two job offers in the area of teaching for next year and I am at a loss of which one to accept as they are both good offers.

Offer One: It is a high school position in which I would be teaching History, English and Carpentry (I am trained in carpentry and have studied history my entire life as a hobby and did it as an undergrad while I was at University) at a school which has been really good to me. I get along great with the staff and students. It is half an hour from my house, but the school is within the transfer zone in which a teacher could come in and take it and leave me with nothing before I even begin. This position is also reviewed every term, but that is a department policy due to the location of the school. The Principal is 99% sure no teacher would come in and take the position.

Offer Two: It is a primary school position in which I would be teaching Grade 3/4 (my trained area for teaching) at a school which has been good to me in terms of work, but outside of that not much more. I get a long well enough at this school with the staff and students, but nearly as well as the other school due to spending so much more time there. The school is located an hour away and the staff do carpool together and if need be there is school housing I could use as well. This position is for the full year without review due to the position of the school. The position is mine without question.

I need to inform both parties of my decision by the end of the week and I am not too sure the best course for me.

Any thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

TL;DR: Two great position, cannot choose between the two.

I have no idea what I am doing

Risk vs reward, it sounds like. The high school position sounds like it would be more enjoyable for you. Currently I work a slightly lower paying job because it is something I want to do. I'd say give the high school job a try and hope it works out.

Please don't blame me if it doesn't. Best of luck to whichever way you choose.

"Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life."

No idea who said that, but I'd go for that. If you do not necessarily need the money or the job reference / experience for something later in your life, take the one you will enjoy more.
