So after the update to windows 10 version 1511 (first big update for the new OS) I've been left with another windows.old folder to get rid of. I managed to get rid of the first one after upgrading from windows 8.1.

But this time I've done disk clean up and its removed MOST of the junk in there but I'm really anal about my folders and I just don't like seeing the windows.old folder in my C: drive...

I've tried everything I can think of

Elevated commands like

del /f/s/q foldername > nul

and

rmdir /s/q foldername

which both say access denied (yes I have taken ownership of the folder)

I'm stuck, can anyone suggest another way of completely deleting the windows.old folder and cure my OCD???

I'd prefer not to use a 3rd party app as the last 2 I tried

Unlocker and moveonboot didn't work...

Thanks but like I said in OP I've done this and there's still a few remnants of it left. I've done this lots of times....

Really? Sorry to have to question you further but is there anyway you can prove what you say is true? I've never heard of a folder like this deleting itself...

But I've not gone from 8 to 10 in this case... This windows.old folder has been generated from performing a windows update... will it still get deleted?
