If you need a mic built-in then sure, they're great. The mic is mediocre but they do sound decent.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

It's an okay headset for the money. Mic is garbage imo.

You can do better for your money with an actual pair of headphones from Sennheiser or AKG and a Zalman clip-on mic.

source: I own the clouds.

Could I buy the HyperX clouds than later on buy a desk mic? Or is that just a waste of money?

Unless you can get the clouds for around $60 I'd just buy a pair of headphones and a mic, personally. The Clouds, while they're cool and all, are nothing special. They sound okay, but there's better choices.

You could build better for less:

  $45 Gemini DJ HSR-1000 (closed)

  or

  $47 Takstar HI 2050 (open)

  with

  $30 VModa / $43 Mod Mic

  =$75-91

Or you can up the sound quality...

Open Air - Better sound stage to locate enemies in games

$65 Philips SHP9500 and a VModa/Mod Mic $30 (The Philips will likely be the most comfortable headphones you'll ever try, with or without glasses)

Closed - more priority for bass

$99 ATH-M40x and a VModa/Mod Mic $30

List of the more talked about mainstream headphone choices here and mics here.

If you are on a tight budget pick up this decent sounding desktop mic - Andrea 2S Superbeam Array Mic  - stereo mic that mounts to your monitor.

Sells for $5-7 often an actually sounds better than most mics < $30 - Currently $15 here

Watch it on PriceZombie or C3 tracker (if you don't know of those sites, they'll be your new best friend)

Would perfer closed-back

NVX Audio XPT100 are great closed back cans and you can get a mic later like a modmic or a desktop mic or use one from a webcam like I do.

All of those headphones are $100+ in Canada

A question about the HyperX Cloud, it the sound quality on them good? Dont really care too much about the mic quality, just need to know if they sound good.

They do sound good, they are the same driver as many other headphones like those Gemini's linked above.

I may just get the HyperX cloud and if I am unhappy about the mic quality, then I'll just buy a new mic.

The Gemini are literally the same headphone without a mic for half the price. Why not just get them?

Because there $100+ in Canada, unless you can find a CANADIAN link for them.

Ah gotcha. Then in that case the Clouds make the most sense.

I posted a thread yesterday about clouds 2 vs logitech g633 since I was not sure. I decided to get the Cloud 2 today and spent quite a bit of my time using them. They are good sounding headphones, they are available for $100 on amazon, ncix but the rainbow six seige bundle is available for $111 on Direct Canada (just price matched it to NCIX). So if you interested in that game, just get the bundle. I am more than satisfied for the amount of money I spent. So go ahead, I am sure it won't disappoint you. By the way that usb thing on the headphones is crap so if you get some static noise with usb, just plug the 3.5mm straight into the pc.

Do you know if there is any difference between the hyperx cloud pro's and the hyperx cloud II's? And thanks for the response, I will most likely be getting that headset.
