Any AiO with a rad under 240mm is not worth it over a decent air cooler.

Ultimately, it all comes down to what you're looking to achieve. As Czex mentioned, most all-in-one units will only perform marginally better, and typically cost significantly more. On the other hand, aesthetically, all-in-one coolers are typically more pleasing. So, if you're talking price versus performance… Air coolers are definitely the way to go. Aesthetically, well, that's really up to your personal tastes. :-)

The U9S is quieter but the Maelstrom performs better.

It might help to give more details..

What are you cooling? Are there alternatives or are you just comparing the two? Where are you shopping/located? Budget?

I'm just comparing the two. I'm cooling an i5 6600k and will be (hopefully) running it an around 4.2GHz. In my country the Maelstrom is 89NZD and the noctua is 109NZD

Either would be more than enough for that but I'd go with the Noctua for the excellent mounting hardware and quieter operation.

Is there any reason why you wouldn't be able to go with a cheaper heatsink like the SR Slim? http://m.pricespy.co.nz/product/2429118

It would be plenty for a 4.2ghz+ oc.

I could but then o could also go with a hyper 212 EVO for about the same price. And I don't really like buying from mighty ape. Had a few issues with them in the past.

The SR Slim is easily better than the 212 Evo.

What kind of issues did you have with Mighty Ape?

If you don't want to shop from them, the HR-02 Macho is even better for a bit more. http://m.pricespy.co.nz/product/1500082
