So im about to build my new PC and i got a 256GB ssd, on which im gonna install new windows. I also have a 1TB HDD which i am using now and it has one partition for windows and one for general storage. My question is can i uninstall windows from my old HDD and use all 1TB as a storage device, or do i have to format it to get that done?

Bring data from the 1TB HDD to another storage option(External HDD?)

Then format and copy right in.

I don't recommend bringing old files into your new computer, they are fragmented and messy.

Yeah,Backup all important files and unplug the HDD and put in the ssd and install windows onto that, with hdd stil unpluged. Then change boot order in bios to your ssd. Plug in old HDD and then power back on, format the drive and reinstall everything and transfer important files. Linus has done some videos for NCIX if you need a hand with it.

hmm, if i install windows on ssd without the hdd plugged in, then connect the hdd and transfer files from hdd to the ssd and only after that format the hdd, would that work? i dont have an external HDD and uploading to the cloud is a pain.

Yes it would work.

But keep in mind to uninstall product key from HDD(slmgr /upk)

On the SSD after entering/activating key if activating key failed (sometimes it does) run slui 2
