PSU is overkill. a good 750w should do fine.

get a 750w psu and will you be doing rendering, or video editing or anything intensive? If not then get a 4670k

This will max out anything you throw at it even at 2560x1440, you picked a lot of overkill parts in your build like the case, power supply, ram, cpu and with that money you could get 780s instead of 770s

why the heck going with 780 SLI? even a 770 SLI can handle that more then easily, and saves a lot of money

for 2560x1440 the 770's in SLI won't max out everything and settings might need to be turned down and since his budget fit SLI 780's I thought it would nice to have that extra performance

you don't need 16gb of ram for gaming and that case is so expensive and not needed I know its the one he chose but he can save so much money there, if he definitely wants that case its a good build

I just meant in the future I didn't do a great job of making it clear I just thought that for his budget 780s in SLI would be the best option so later on when more demanding games are out he can still max them out, I know there's no such thing as future proofing but this gives him a little bit more power :)

You only play on one monitor, don't you? Like, play a game on one and watch a stream or browsing the interwebz on the second one.

2 would be a quite strange setup, since most of the action happens where the monitor frame is.

Honestly i would go with a single GPU LGA1150 setup and save the rest for future upgrades.

You have more from it when you buy a single 780 now and in a couple of years you replace it with a 980 or 1080 (i don't think that they keep the naming scheme after 980 though :D) with the money you saved.

I think its safe to say he will definitely only be playing on one monitor :) and that is a good option too however a 2560x1440 a single 780 wont max out every high end game

Luckily we have a video for that

So yeah, you can't max out everything on 1440p, but i'd still say a single 780 now and a upgrade in a couple of years is more future proof.

However, if you want to crank everything up SLI is the way to go

This is a good setup. an i7 and 16GB of RAM is overkill for gaming, and SLI isn't compatible with all games, and you will run into problems. I recommend skipping a 770 2 Way SLI for a single 780.

I'd agree with that and if he wants to add an extra 780 later he can some higher end games can't be maxed out

Something like BF3 or Batman AC maxed out@1440 already tanks my 680 with one screen... the 770 being at only 10-15% faster is lacking.  780 or prepare to drop the settings.

Here's my pick: (without the case.. since I think it's the OP's personal choice for style and willingness to spend more or less)

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1ufrz

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor  -  I would go for i7 but i5 + overclock is sufficent for gaming.
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  -  better control with the "i" version
Motherboard: Asus Maximus VI Hero ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  - unchanged from OP
Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory - I use 16Gb but 8GB is sufficient
Storage: Samsung 840 Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Disk  unchanged from OP
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  unchanged from OP
Video Card: PNY GeForce GTX 780 3GB Video Card (2-Way SLI)  - lowest priced 780 in the list at the moment
Video Card: PNY GeForce GTX 780 3GB Video Card (2-Way SLI)  - optional to save $ now.. price drop possible in near future with new amd cards.
Power Supply: Corsair 760W 80 PLUS Platinum Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply  - I can personally vouch the efficiency in platinum vs gold translate directly to less heat in system. My 2600K@4.8Ghz + 680@1189Mhz during gaming barely makes the PSU fans spin.
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer  ($18.49 @ Amazon) - unchanged from OP

Total: $2206.90 + case and extra fans as needed

Other thoughts:

BF3 Multiplayers uses around 30% CPU (i7@4.8Ghz) during gaming... but what will happen when they start using the other cores in the near future?

My Rigs (past and present)
