So sometimes during startup or first 5 minutes of desktop idle my computer bluescreens with the error Driver Power State Failure, Had a bit of a google and It told me to update all the Drivers which I did (except the BIOS cause it wont install for some reason??) and yet I still get a blue screen?

Im overclocked at 4.4ghz and it SHOULD be stable but that could be a factor as well . . .

atm my bet is the BIOS but I cant get it to install so If anyone has a trick or way to force a update please let me know, otherwise im stuck with random crashes at start up . .

the pc works fine every other time tho??

Have you ever tried clearing the CMOS or resetting the BIOS to Fail safe/ Default Settings and see if instability still persists?

Well you should still at least try resetting to fail safe/ default settings (if your computer can get into the BIOS) when you run into instability problems, especially when overclocking.

but now im back to default clock speed on the cpu . . .

Probably cause you reset your bios settings to default

Give it a few hours (or even a day) and see if you're still having the issue. If not, then maybe the OC was the problem, ease off a bit when you redo it

yeah I know that, I have stable tests up to 4.5ghz, I just re-configured it to 4.4 cause it gets too hot with my current cooler (212 Evo)

this post isnt about overclocking its about the drivers and/or failure to update BIOS

I only mentioned it as a possible factor

I'll admit, I'm no expert on overclocking. I just know it can cause blue screens, possibly power related stuff.

After about 10 seconds of googling, I found this:

http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-1653253/fix-driver-power-state-failure-windows.html

Have you tried that?

I assume you are using windows 8 or 10, process should be the similar for both of them

yes im windows 8.1, I read the page you linked from toms hardware and It constantly refers to "the problematic driver", atm I'm unsure which driver is actually causing the issue ?\

thanks btw :)

I did get the bios to update so that shouldn't be a factor anymore and yes I have still blue screened with the same error since then

after Diagnosing the problematic driver is ntoskrnl.exe

I read this article and found that Overclocking MIGHT still be the problem? which is a shame cause I'd rather not run the cpu at stock . . .

It also mentioned that RAM could be the issue, you could run a memory check program or just manually test each stick for a while (individually) under normal use.

I did do a couple of passes of memtest86 when I overclocked to test it, memory seems fine but It did make me think of the fast-boot option in the BIOS for ram, I remember reading turning that off can make a OC slightly more stable so I might try that
