Game Capture

Hi guys, I'm looking for a way to record gameplay from my PC, but software recording like OBS isn't quite cutting it. I have to turn my game settings way down to accommodate for the extra CPU usage, and even then the recordings seem to have poor quality, even with a high bitrate. Does anyone know of a way to get higher quality recording without buying a new CPU or an Elgato? I would like at least 720p (preferably 1080p60) recording but don't want to spend $130+ on an Elgato. Is there some kind of a cheap H.264 accelerator for my PC or something similar that I could use?

Main PC: i5 4590 @ 3.5 GHz ♦ RX 480 Armor OC ♦ 16 GB DDR3 ♦ GA-Z97-HD3 ♦ 120 GB 840 EVO ♦ 120 GB Intel 520 ♦ W10 Home

Scrapyard PC: Xeon X5460 @ 3.8 GHz ♦ HD 7870 ♦ 8 GB DDR2 ♦ GA-P35-DS3L ♦ 80 GB Intel 320 ♦ 160 GB WD Caviar SE ♦ W10 Home

I might be misremembering but I would have sworn I saw some videos / topics some time ago about using the integrated graphics on the CPU to record with something like xsplit while gaming with a dedicated GPU.

Unfortunately I'm not seeing what I'm looking for afrew a couple google searches.

Well I think AMD has recording software that uses your GPU to record with. I have no idea if HD 5870 (damn that's an old card). OBS is pretty good. Fraps is good. MSi Afterburner has a built in recorder.

Ok, thanks. GPU accelerated recording would probably help. If the 5870 is not supported I will be getting either a 7970, 280x, or 380 soon so it should be supported on those cards.

Alright cool, I will see if I can find it.

Thanks m8, its a feature in OBS called Quick Sync. Will test it out.

Your CPU is already pretty good. I have a feeling that your GPU is the one lacking power. Thats the one you see in most games frame rates dipping while recording.
