Im going to get a coolermaster nepton 240 friday and i want to overclock it but i have a few questions

-whats the max save temp for an fx-8370

-what OC is still save for my msi 970 gaming am3+ , hardwarecanucks have a very detailed review about it and it can even run an fx-9590 even though its unsupported : http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/reviews/motherboards/msi-970-gaming-am3-motherboard-review/

-I can only install the radiator in the front in my case but i can put it higher so then there will be no fans blowing air under my gpu or i can lower it so theres 1 fan blowing air under my gpu , whats the best option here?

my rig ( fx-8370@ 4.6GHz / Nepton 240m/ msi 970 gaming / 16 Gb corsair xms / antec VP700P /  aerocool xpredator x1 white / costum rgb lights / r9 290 direct cu2 / 1 TB hhd/ sandisk 128gb ssd / adata SP900 128gb )

peripherals ( steelseries apex / sharkoon fireglider black / razer goliathus / lg25ub55 )

-70*C max

-depends on voltage/TDP (likely 4.5GHz) if you want to be safe

-doesent really matter that much but you can mount it higher if you want

4,5 ghz might be achievable on stock voltage depending on his luck

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White

I have read that the max temp is 62-65 on the fx-8350

Yea I got it wrong.

65*C max core temp.

70*C-80*C max socket temp.

Anyway.. you most likely wont hit those max temps with that cooler if you are OCing on 970 chipset as you may get limited with your max OC.

Is 70C just your personal safe zone or is that too close to the chip's throttling point?

When the sensors show 70 degrees it throttles to around 1300mhz per core for a moment until it cools down, you cannot bypass it, I wouldn't recommend allowing it go over 65 degrees.

That is the worst case scenario for this chip. And it should be 65*C not 70*C .. I got it wrong.

Didn't know that. I don't have too much experience with FX chips - that's weird though.

Well I own one, overclocked one so I've got first-hand experience with it ^^ It's a pretty good CPU overall, I like it.

As for the max temperature limit, it's probably capped cause higher temps would damage it ;-; That's the myth about AMD CPU's being 'hot'. They're not hot, they output more heat into your room cause of larger heatspreaders I believe, they can actually run cooler than their Intel counterparts

Well I have an FX chip in another rig, I just never overclocked it since I haven't put a better cooler in there. I think whenever I upgrade it, it's going to be either with Zen (if they're any good) or just switch it out with my Intel stuff once I upgrade.

Man I hope Zen aren't going to be a failure and that they're at least challenge Intel in some price brackets cause right now, they've got no real competition and they don't improve enough with each generation cause of that, imo.
