Nexus 6P

Go to solution Solved by Suika,

Can you explain what your trying to say? 200$ can't get you a 6p...

I believe he's saying he can get it on a 2-year contract with a wireless carrier. For reference, the iPhone 6S and Galaxy S6 are also $200 on contract.

I would have a look at oneplus X, although it whitelisted it going to public in December/January.

Why are you recommending an inferior phone?

@Twisters - Many reviews are saying it's the greatest Android phone available, and if you're alright with a 5.7" form factor, I'd have to agree. Battery life can make it all day, camera is up there definitely but not the absolute best in my opinion, performance is going to be great plus the fact that it's stock Android means it'll be smooth for a very long time, updates as soon as Google releases them, etc. If I recommend any Android device, it's definitely the Nexus 6P.

@Twisters I currently have my hands on a Nexus 6P (32GB Aluminium). What would you like to know about it? Personally I absolutely adore it. I full-heartedly recommend this phone

What are the biggest pros and cons? I'm just very curious to see how it preforms from an "average Joe" sort of perspective. Also have you had any problems with the 810?

I'll start of with saying no, I have had zero problems with the Snapdragon 810, although my usage is not very heavy. I don't play any intensive 3D games on my phone and my heaviest usage scenario is probably listening to music and browsing reddit / multitasking. During those tasks, it barely gets warm to the touch. I believe that it performs superb for the average Joe. It never lags or hiccups on me and it just flat out works and it's...fast. Here are the list of pros IMO.

  • Camera is up there and takes amazing low light photos. I would highly recommend using HDR mode when taking stills and when in low-light
  • Display is f*cking beautiful, the deep blacks that AMOLED can provide just makes the viewing pleasure amazing. Not to mention the awesomely saturated colors.
  • The 3450 mAh battery gets me about 3hr  45m to 4hr 30m of screen on time (1/4 brightness is plenty for indoors) browsing reddit. The Type-C connector also charges the battery quite quickly
  • Dual front facing speakers are pure bliss for media consumption and they sound good too.
  • Fingerprint scanner is on point and is a quick + easy way to unlock the phone straight from sleep. Although on rare ocassion it seems to have a fit and not register my finger, but it may have something to do with sweaty & oily fingers
  • The physical phone looks beautiful IMO and the aluminum build feels hefty and very nice in the hand
  • Android 6.0 has given me no issues yet and the animations are bliss as well.
  • Buttons are clicky and satisfying as hell

Cons

  • The camera hump on the back causes me some worry when setting the phone down on a surface, so I make sure to set it down gently.
  • Fingerprint is on the back, so if you have your phone laying down on your desk, you'll need to pick it up to unlock it or use the other unlocking method (PIN or Pattern)
  • The aluminum can be a bit slippy at times, so take care when handling the device
  • One handed operation is out of the question.
  • Like before, on rare occasions the fingerprint sensor will throw a fit and not register, but I suspect it may have to do with my sweaty or oily fingers, not sure.

I know this list is a bit biased, but I'll update if I remember anything else.

I'll have to agree on most of the cons. i have more but i'm thinking my 6p may have defects or something..

for some reason the sensor keeps missing my fingerprint, even though i tested it a dozen times in the settings. my hands are clean too, and so is the sensor itself.. sometimes it's faster just to unlock with a pattern..

the type-c port. while it's nice to have it, it also means i'll have to buy chargers that have type-c at both ends to use rapid charging. plus i'll have to buy new cables.

i'm not getting very good battery life either. barely get 4 hours Screen-on-time, and that's when i deliberately be conservative.. plus doze is pretty weird. once i use the phone battery use rises significantly. it's worse than my G3, which is something else..

the top speaker seems to be a tad louder than the bottom one. this is a pretty prevalent issue i think

fortunately i still like this phone in spite of these problems. hopefully my replacement device is better..
