Currently I have an old 22" samsung T220 LCD display, and another 27" Samsung LED  display (can't remember the model nr.)

I'm looking to buy a new monitor to replace my old T220 22" (1680x1050) 2ms - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001273

I play games 80% of the time on the monitor, the other 20 I watch videos. No photo/video editing or any other work done on it.

My dillema is wether the 24" panel looks crisper with 1080 than the 27", and if it's worth it. And what panel is "hot" these days, I haven't bought a monitor in four years now, so I'm outta shape on this front.

Also if you could suggest a good monitor for up to 300$ that would be great, gaming in mind. I do like a big picture, and have thought of going eyefinity but I quit. Personally anything between 24" and 30" is fine. I want great picture, fast response, and if possible a thin bezel - so basically what everyone is asking.

Thanks all!

Edit:-I sit approx. 1m to 1.5m from the monitor.

-Should i be looking  at a 120Hz monitor? I mostly play online FPS, so that's a big concern.

Depends how far away you sit from your monitors, for 27" 1080p, you'd have to be somewhat farther away from it to look nice. I would personally keep 23-24" max for 1080p and for 27" 1440p is the way to go. Also go for IPS panel, much better colour reproduction and viewing angles. For example the Dell U2312HM (which I have) is amazing for a good price.

Thanks, I've just looked into the monitor you recommended. Turns out it's one of the best sellers here. And there's a deal on it now. Only it's 23"... And I've never played on an 8ms monitor O_o

24 is the max I would go whatsoever. I've tried alot of larger screens and they just feel to big, It's all down to personal preference though I suppose.

Another benefit of a smaller screen is a higher pixel density.

Yes, higher pixel density is why I'm interested in a 24"

And what do you say to 3x24" in eyefinity?

Firstly I wanted to get a 3D vision monitor by asus, but since I'm changing camp from nvidia to ATI, naturally I'm thinking eyefenity :)

I bought my 1st 1080p monitor last Christmas http://www.dell.com/ed/business/p/dell-u2312h/pd

it's a 23" monitor and by that i mean 23" viewable image size, the 24" monitors that are 1080p are not really 24" viewable image size and are more expensive, if you want a "true" 24" monitor you should look for a 1920x1200 resolutions, but they are more expensive.

I would not go with a 27" 1080p it is too large and you will notice jaggies, i recommend the dell i linked to but the only problem with it is, that it's lowest brightness level is too high, the rest is fine, its an IPS panel and you can find Samsung and LG models for similar price, and if i were buying a new monitor i would again take Dell or Samsung because of the longer warranty, 3 years

Seeing as we're basically neighbours, here's what I've found: http://protis.hr/products/details/monitor-led-ips-23-dell-u2312hm-1920x1080-300-cdm2-10001-8ms-black/49391 -looks like a helluva deal to me... And people seem to massively recommend this bad boy.

Also, would you care to elaborate the "24" viewable size vs 23" viewable size" you've mentioned, as I don't seem to get it, what's te difference/pro 23" in gaming (besides the higher ppi, which is neglectible in this case, <1i> is not much)?

haha well if you stick nvidia then I'ld suggest a 24 inch 120hz monitor you can use 3d vision on.

But on the AMD side of things 3 low end 24 inch monitors will do you nicely for eyefinity :)

It's just personal preferance that I like 24 inch as a size though. So if you happen to like 27 inch screens then go those :D

nah man, the 9970 looks to good to miss out on, maybe when maxwell comes out I'll come back, but bf4 is AMD optimized. :D

i like 24 more than 27 but you already have a 27 inch so 2x27 inch would be more awesome

2x27 would put the bezels right in the middle, which would be awful. Besides the 27" sammy I have has the ugly fat red bezel, which makes it useles for eyefinity. And also, I use it on another PC so I need to buy another monitor anyway.

EDIT: And besides guys, shouldn't i be looking at a 120Hz monitor? Just a lame-man's question. Since I play BF and all...

XD yeah neighbour !

The difference is that the 23" panel i suggested has a panel that is 23", 24" 1080p has 23,something" panel that is without the bezels. so you basically pay more to have a stretched 1080p monitor that is just a bit bigger but you pay extra, that is what put me off those 24" ones, if you want a good 24" monitor try looking for ones that have 1920x1200 resolutions, but if you don't care about the extra pixels this dell is a good deal and has a 3 year warranty.

Again i stress out this monitor is very bright even at low settings, oh yeah and i forgot it has no HDMI, but has DVI-D, VGA and Display Port

It is i believe the best "cheap" IPS panel you can get, there was one Samsung model with a TV card inside that was priced similar, so yeah it has high reviews and i can only say good things about it.

Here is the review of the monitor. http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2312hm.htm

One more thing why this monitor sold me response time is stated to be 8 ms but with some tech Dell implemented it came down to 5 and it is shown in the review, and the best thing of all average response time is 0,6 ms maximum 10, that my friend is the closest panel i have ever seen to be on the CRT level of speed, what ever you buy try checking this out or try the reading a few more reviews

btw if you ran out of them in Protis you can get them from Links http://www.links.hr/?naziv=monitor-23-led-dell-u2312hm-8ms-300cd-m2-2000000-1-ips-d-sub-dvi-dp-usb-hub-pivot-crni&option=artikl&id_artikl=100.332.146&tab=opis

read their costumer reviews as well, in a month or two i will buy another for my mother just for work, she loves it

props man! nice answer, explained it to me nicely. I've seen it in links aswell, but i always go to protis because of the lower prices, so i can cut my own prices here when I order in Bihac. Thank you once again.

If it's speed you're after, I can suggest you look into this baby: http://www.techngaming.com/home/guide/tips/updated-eliminate-motion-blur-while-gaming-with-nvidia-lightboost-r485 - I did when I planed to get a new nvidia, but now it seems redundant. Eventhough the same "hack" works on AMD too.

24in is the largest I'd go for 1080. Personally I prefer 1200p over 1080p, though the difference probably isn't worth worrying about. A 120Hz monitor would be nice for FPS if you can push frame rates higher than about 80-90fps, otherwise you are only really benefiting from lower motion blur. IPS is better for everything else and is what I'd go for personally. Motion blur on a decent IPS monitor isn't really much worse than the blur on all but a couple of the high refresh rate monitors.

Also, don't believe the response times manufactures quote. They all measure it differently so comparing response times between monitors isn't accurate unless the measurement has been standardized.

www.tftcentral.com is a pretty good site for monitor reviews. They've tested 120Hz/144Hz monitors so you can compare them to IPS monitors to see if that's what you'd prefer.
