Hi guys, i'm currently owning a GTX 970 G1 Gaming from Gigabyte. Frankly speeking it works really fine, but when playing some heavy AAA titles i see some stuttering and FPS drops in particular intense scenes. I think it is due to the 3.5GB memory bug (or whatever you want to call it). So i was planning to upgrade that puppy with an higher end GPU. But now, with Pascal right behind the corner and with DirectX compatibility problem with Maxwell, i ended up in some doubts. Should i keep my GTX 970 for now and wait for Pascal (the Pascal equivalent of actual 980 Ti)? Should i upgrade to another Maxwell card (GTX 980 Ti)? Or should i start playing for Team Red?

i would stick with the 970 for now and wait for the next gen

exactly what im doing, hoping the 980 ti drops some in price

The memory issue is bollocks, keep the 970.

well i am actually playing some games that fill up memory buffer, and sometimes it start stutters whithout any apparently reason

Which titles are you experiencing the drops and stutters in?

GTA V, Shadow of Mordor, The Withcer 3...and almost all the games that fill up the memory buffer...i am waiting for Fallout 4, and i think it will be the same on that title if i crank up some settings

1080p or 1440p ?? cause i play in 1080p and have 0 issues with asus strix 970

1080p and i still can't max up all settings, in part due to the memory issue, in part due to the lack of power from the graphics card (but i am planning to get a 144hz monitor)

so you think i should wait for Pascal and then get the 980 Ti, or get the Pascal equivalent for 980 Ti?

see what the price is like vs performance... good chance it will only be marginally better than the 980 ti and the 980 ti should drop some in prioce

i read somewhere it is rumored to have 17b transistors or something like that...now i don't know if this will be true, but that would be a HUGE improvement...together with HBM2 implementation

You'll be waiting around 7-12 months for Pascal.

If you can, sell the 970 and get a 980 Ti or go AMD and get a 390(X).

Ty for your hint...but i think that my next upgrade will be much similar to your :D

Should be a fine upgrade my friend. :) Depending on Pascal's performance, if its strong enough I may just go 4K all the way. That's what I truly want to play at. Just no single GPU to push it well and a big gripe for me is 4K is limited to 60fps. Decisions decisions... :)
