I3 4160 or fx 6300

I am a person looking to get into PC gaming, while also doing video rendering and some live streaming. I am on a strict budget of $400. I have two possible build that I would do which has these CPUs. Which one is better in my situation? If you also want to list more parts like q mono or graphics card for a $400 PC that's fine as well, as I'm looking to get what I can as cheap as possible. Thanks!

FX6300 since you plan on streaming/rendering.

Although, at $400 you won't be able to get much of a graphics card

I'm over budget, but I wouldn't recommend going with much less....

You aren't going to be streaming well on either. The i3 has better single core performance and allows for a nice upgrade to a 4790k later.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

I'll go with the fx 6300 and OK. Can any else try to make it closer to $400. Im on a really really tight budget. I'd be willing to buy used graphics cards, hard drives, or cases if anyone has any.

An FX6300 can handle streaming just fine, and will definitely do better in rendering.

Sticking with just new parts there's not really all that much you could shave off (you could find a cheap $20 case, but you'll ultimately regret it in the end). If you're willing to buy used, then definitely do that (just make sure everything is working fine), or if you can reuse any parts from your current computer (HDD/case/RAM) then that works too.

The case is probably fine (assuming it's an ATX case), and the HDD may be a Sata drive (ten years ago was when Sata started to phase out IDE), although it may not be large enough (and it won't be as reliable as a modern drive -- but it's acceptable if it's large enough for you).

Do you live near a microcenter?

Holy crap. First post I've seen on LTT forum where people aren't bashing AMD's FX CPUs and suggesting intel instead.

There's a time and place where AMD makes sense, albeit a very narrow point.

Ok, I have gone in it and it has wiresnthat don't exist anymore, which is.most of them. The USB plug is like as big as the twenty four pin connector.

So the HDD is connected via a large ribbon cable (and not a small sata cable)?

This! You can't stream on either chip, and the i3 is better in 99% of games, the only thing the FX chip will help with is rendering.

Except that you can stream with an FX6300.

You won't be streaming on either so get the i3.

You can stream fine with an FX 6300. Anyways, GCN 1.2 bitches, and that means OBS with VCE!

HDD does have data cable but USB is a fat plug that looks almost like a 24 pin connector.

Thanks for another option. Isn't this chipset kind of outdated. They aren't making any new cpus for fm2, right?

not for FM2+, or AM3 and LGA1150 for that matter.

Either way it'll last a bit.

AM3+ is equally dead.

It's a trade off. The FX6300 will do better in rendering/streaming, but downgrading to an 860k and going with a better GPU will improve gaming performance...so it's a decision that only you can really make (but buying used could alleviate that issue if you find some good deals).

Then you can reuse the drive (if it's large enough for your needs).
