Hey everyone,

I would like to upgrade my PC for Fallout and GTA. At the moment I have:

I5 4460

GTX 650 1GB

8GB RAM

My budget is around 200 dollars/euros.

What GPU do you recommend? I doesn't have to be a brand new one, and a used one is fine too.

If you like a R9 290 is a great card since its quite a bit cheaper than the R9 390 but about the performance you need for those two games :)

You would think Ubisoft would support the Bulldozer based architectures more given their digging themed names like bulldozer, Piledriver, Steamroller and Excavator.

A R9 290 for $219/199MIR

if you have good airflow it's a nice option

what do you have as a psu? because if you have something a little bit beefy, and a correct airflow, AMD wins bang for the buck at these price ranges. If you have something that barely supports your current rig, you should probably opt for GTX for their power efficiency... for specifics, anything suggested up there is quite ok (r9 290, 380, gtx 960 gtx 970, all used or new)

lastly, if you choose something used, make sure it wasnt overused, like used for folding or mining!

I cant remember is it the 290 or 290x that sounds horrible at reference fans. I remember when it first came out it was panned on the reference due to heat and acoustics.

Anyways if you can find a 290 used it will be a really nice upgrade. Will be able to easily game at 1080p and will get high medium settings for Fallout 4. If you can not find a 290 used then a 280x would be a great option. It has a less VRAM then a 380 but is a more powerful card in general.

It is both cards that have bad coolers, which is why I mentioned if you have good cooling, a used after market is also good, if he can find it

I'm sorry to tell you, but you probably won't find anything that will fit with your psu if you go for r9 290(x)... upgrading your psu would still be an option though!
