I am currently using a Gateway NE56R41U. I would like to get a new laptop, but I am currently focusing on building a tower gaming pc, so I am going to be stuck with this for a while. It usually runs well, but it is sometimes laggy, and occasionally will even slow down to a complete halt, sometimes not allowing me to use it at all without restarting because of how slow it is running. This laptop sports an i3 Processor and 4gbs of ram. Would upgrading the ram do me any good or is it more the processor's fault it doesn't run the best? Also, do you guys have any programs or tips on speeding this ol' thing up? All help is appreciated, thank you in advance.

What OS are you using? Sounds like your system is being bottle necked somehow by malware. You may need to do a system clean up or a reinstall of the OS.

Your system should not be acting that way as its not that old.

I am running Win10

Run malwarebytes and avast.

^^^ What he said.

Also, I had noticed this same thing with my laptop after I upgraded to win10, random decreased performance but after doing the following it cleared up.

Go in an clean out the upgrade by doing a disk cleanup:

Start menu > type in Disk Cleanup > click on the result > select all the boxes including windows update files, old windows files > click OK.

Let the system do its thing about 3-15 mins. Then do a restart.

But also do the malware sweeps just in case.

*edit

I just noticed you have 4gb of ram you could up that to 8 and that would help as well. Win10 has a tendency use 3gb on a low load. So that would be another bottle neck for you.  :)
