wut I just want a single slot card so I can use my TV tuner card and some other goodies.

I was just getting ready to reach through my screen and choke you to death but then I saw the /jk. :P

I love yelling at people when they complain about my using of CX PSUs. Like who cares. They're better than a lot of other crap and my CX430M has been a tank.

The bottom slot would allow that,.

Yeah, it's not powering some sort of supercomputer, I wouldn't complain about the use of the 430m here

Not on my current board sadly. This one has the damned x1 slot right below the x16. :/

Which is another area that the P5K is better-though its still only PCIe Gen 1 x4.

Well sadly I still think something Sandy based will probably be my next stop for this rig unless I win the lotto.

But now, an update. So basically my card reader will not work with this motherboard (it gets mad when I plug it in), but the TV tuner that I found actually works so it gets to stay in it. Also, the front actually has support for a 120mm fan, so I threw one in there. ON WITH THE PICTURES!!!

OI @CtW GETCHO ASS IN HERE BOI

EDIT: On an updatey sidenote, I got the little fan duct all set up so that it's basically on the fan, and I can hear turbulence from the air rushing through the side panel now. Stays moderately cool (right around 70C) which I'm pretty happy with. Also, I took the DVD drive out of my AMD rig and threw it in, and took out the card reader that the mobo doesn't like. I found a 3.5" fan controller that should (in theory) work, so that hole will get filled. After that, all that's left will be a video card such as the EVGA GT 740 so that I have DX11 support and a lot more horsepower to actually edit with.

Oh, and of course all the other upgrades I have lined up in an Excel doc, which is linked below.

Eh. To be honest though, the one GT740 I have saved somewhere is single slot and more than enough for editing and playing 1080p60 video. ;)

Teeny update: I stole the DVD drive from my 7850BE rig for this, and I found a 3.5" fan controller I'm thinking about buying with some of my ZenFone funds. I also added an 80GB 7200.9? for the OS and software and the DeathStar is now the scratch disk. And now that the thermal paste has had some time, the max rendering temp I've seen is 70C (down from like 75C when I didn't have the sidepanel duct in, now it's right up to the fan, more on that at the end). Also, I've decided that later in this rigs life it will be going team red with an FX-6300 and a Gigabyte mobo I forgot the model of.

Now, on to the meat. That duct is effective. I can hear turbulence from the fan pulling air through it. And it's already getting dusty, which is nuts since the front of my main bae isn't getting dusty nearly as fast. So yeah, that thing works great. And finally, I made a new intro for my videos that I like a lot more. I wish the colors were more me, but eh. So much better. If you are subbed to me on the YouBoob, look for it sometime in January, maybe even February (I have a HUGE stockpile of videos). :P

  • 2 weeks later...

I've decided on a new use for this rig: A file server for at my grandma's house. Yeah. It runs Windows Server 2012 R2, and I set up the DeathStar as the storage drive with a bunch of folders for different users, as well as a public folder for everybody to use. Folders will be used as network drives on the client computers, and to login I just made an asston of users on the server for them to log in. So far it works fine at my house.

Sadly, the bottom drive doesn't get any airflow, not that it matters too much since it's the OS drive.

Two things I love about this case is that there's a spot for me to shove two extra SATA data cables and the power cable, and it's awesomely light.

Planned upgrades NOW are a cheap SSD for like $50 bucks (something like an ADATA SSD) and a bunch of 1TB WD RE3 drives (for that enterprise grade awesomeness). Now for the pics.
