Folding Questions: Before installing the program

Go to solution Solved by Godlygamer23,

Folding@home can use both the CPU and GPU. You can pause the Work Unit or simply close the program - but the tasks have deadlines. If that deadline isn't met, the Work Unit is automatically discarded. Folding points is a way to give you credit, that's all. In regards to the 750 Ti being strong enough, yes it should be, but the number of points you get is dependent on the Work Unit.

Hi all, so I just found out about Folding and it sounds like something I would be interested in doing. From what I've gathered it uses your GPU to fold not your CPU (please correct this if I'm wrong). I would like to ask a few questions about it. So, can I just simply pause folding with one click or do you have to fold for a set amount of time? (from what I've seen on the video on their website it's aimed for night time use). I ask this, because I don't particularly want to have it running whilst in game and give me a tanky framerate. Also, I want to be able to fold for frequent short amounts of time (whilst I'm doing school work and other light tasks). What are folding points which I see referenced on many threads? Is my GPU powerful enough/compatible for F@H (Stock GTX 750Ti)? How many points will I be able to get in an hour/shorter amount of time? Thanks in advance!

What happens if the Work unit is discarded? Does that mean that my efforts towards folding will be useless or what? Also, what can you do with the points you collect? I'm still confused with that.

The respective Work Unit gets removed and your system starts another one. As long as you complete it before the deadline, you are contributing to the project.

Is the amount of time you have to complete a work unit a set time for all units or does it vary between users?

It varies between users because some Work Units are more complex than others.
