Budget PSU for Basic Build

julianspiteri

Building an extremely basic build for an older relative and I am looking for the cheapest power supply that is reliable and wont light on fire, as cheap psu's normally do. http://www.atoz.com.mt/products/psu-atx-high-end/5998-psu-atx-high-end-cooler-master-elite-atx-v2.3-500w-12v1=20a-+-12v2=20a I found this at a local store and was wondering if it was good enough for what i want to do, or if there was a better alternative for about $50.

The cooler master elite power supplies aren't great, something from seasonic or EVGA like this one http://pcpartpicker.com/part/seasonic-power-supply-s12ii520bronze might suit you better.

Look for more good PSUs in this thread: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/406160-psu-ranking-and-tiers/

XFX TS 550W or SeaSonic Eco 430W

XFX and Seasonic both got on my shit list for their bullshit 1250W PSUs that are either a few years old now or still being made today (since the XFX 1250 was a rebranded Seasonic 1250).  "single rail" my dick.  They were just hoping no one actually tries putting 1200W of load on the 12V rail and discovering it's actually multi-rail.  "oh hey why does my desktop click off when I stress test the cpu and gpu together?"

The CX series of psu would be ideal for your build and are realitevely easy to pick up in Europe.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

Why you shouldn't trust Gpu or Cpu boss Click on this I dare you!

From amazon UK a cx500 is £42 which is €58 without delivery so it's not a bad price, at least in Europe. Plus, I feel more comfortable getting everything locally for something like this

An i3 and no graphics card, as I said very basic. Power consumption is extremely low, probably less than 200w

Then you're fine with a CX500
