Probably a stupid thought of mine, but if someone had like 8 GB of RAM and some of the time the use shot up to like 80-100% RAM use, if they doubled and quadroupled the RAM by 4 (up to a max of 32) would the RAM use decrease by half and a 4th (in the case of 32 GB)? Such as right now I am using about 98% of my 8 GB. I had like 32 could be RAM be as low as around 24.5%? I'd doubt it'd work that way but waning an answer.

Actually not exactly, windows will use more or less of your RAM for certain tasks depending on how much you have available. For example a system with 4gb of RAM might use 3gb in a certain scenario, but with a system with 32gb of RAM windows might assign more memory to it to make sure it runs well.

Well I think he is asking more like how much will get used if more is available TO use. Like Cacao ^ just said, windows will use more RAM if it sees that it can. With my 12 gigs of RAM, it boots up at about 1.5-2 gigs used, and just opening chrome (to be fair its a good 25 tabs) I can easily be running at 4-5 gigs of RAM used, when before doing the same things with only 6 gigs in my rig I would run about 3 with the same programs running.

Basically, yes, programs will use more resources if they see the ability to.

These are spot on. I was wrong, they were correct. :)

Yes, that's how it works.

EDIT: Example: If you had 32GB of RAM, and you were using 100% of it, you doubled it to 64GB, now your usage is 50%.

So you're saying that your computer will use some of it for the OS or memory controller?

Yea, basically because RAM is fast, programs like to load into it. The more RAM available in the system, the more RAM windows will allow programs to gab up for themselves if that makes sense. Windows will use more if it can as well. If you put windows 7 on a PC with 1 gig of RAM, the PC will cold boot with about 250-300 megs of RAM used. With my 12 gig system, it boots with 1-2 used easily. More RAM = better. Although today, 32 is a big overkill. 16 is the sweet spot :)

If windows 7/8 could use the theortiacal limit of 64 bit (16 Exabytes) how much of that do you think the OS would reserve for it self? A few terabytes?  . . . And yes I know Windows 7 limits it to 192 GB. If Windows did limit the RAM to 16 E, I think we'd be using about 1% or less of that right now.
