XBox One Controller VS Steam Controller

So I'd like to upgrade to a wireless PC controller. I've been using an Xbox 360 wired controller so far and am happy with it but sick of dealing with the wires.

I'd like to know your opinions on which controller might be a better candidate. I do a lot of gaming with a controller, much more so than keyboard and mouse.

Xbox One controller, the touch pads on the steam controller are not as good as analog sticks IMO

Gotta go PS4 controller.

Downside is, button prompts are often wrong, and it requires more faffing IMO

Depends on what game you'll play. Like one reviewer said. If you wanna play games, which normally require controller (racing,2d, fighting and sports games) then go with a xbox 360 or xbox one.

For strategy games  and htpc, then the steam controller is a better choice.

This is what i seems to understand from reviewers.

Gotta be playing that melee online.

What can I say? It is objectively the superior design. It's easier for beginners to learn, because your hands instinctively know where the buttons are instead of looking at the controller wondering where the hell X and Triangle are, with your friend constantly yelling "Hit Circle! Hit Circle! Nooooooooo!"

way more comfortable, too. Nintendo has the ergonomics down. I've never seen anyone, child or giant, who couldn't use the gamecube controller. It's perfect.

Valve is a few Lightyears smarter than MS. I guess their Controller is better. Never used it myself though.

its not that much different tbh and the face buttons make more sense in a logical diamond shape - once you learn it, its 100% instinctive

NO buy a steam controller it hasn't been used by very many people yet but yeah it's really good if you use steam as it automatically sets up the buttons for you so there is no worrying if the game you play does not support a controller. It may take a while to get used to but it's really good and is more supported overall

I've used a Steam Controller, did so at Twitchcon. I'll say, but an Xbox One controller, and get the official wireless dongle with it.

I felt like using the thumb pads/touch surfaces on the Steam Controller was like running my fingers over an old plastic trackpad.

Right now, the Steam Controller is a fun novelty, but if you want to put your money toward something you'll want to use for extended periods, buy the Xbox One controller and get the wireless dongle.
