Hey, so I can't decide between two motherboards.

1: ASUS Crosshair 5 Formula Z

2: ASRock 990fx killer 3.1

So I'm definetally staying AMD, so please don't try to convert me.

Now the asus board is great quality, has extra fan pins, power plugs, and included features. (I do plan for overclocking a LOT and possibly watercooling the vrms and chipsets.

The asrock has a usb 3.1 a and c addin card (but i could buy it seprate for $30) and a pcie m.2 slot. the slot operates at pcie v2 x2, so it's not as fast as slots on pcie v3 mobos. and the asrock board is not as good quality, and dosent have as many fan pins or the extra cpu power plug, dosen't have good features, and the pcie extra power plug (molex) is in a weird position.

I'm leaning towards the asus, but I want to know if mabey I should get the asrock for the usb 3.1 and m.2 slot.

I would be grateful for your opinion, thanks!

ASUS. But you should still come to the darkside, we have cookies and cache.

If you aren't going to use the M.2 I think I would recommend the Asus, however take reviews into account in your decision.  Just because it's Asus doesn't mean it's going to be made from gold and just because it's Asrock doesn't mean it's going to be a brick (I actually don't have a problem with Asrock)

You're right. I have an asrock board right now. Its good build quality, but micro atx, on the 760g chipset, and has an annoying onboard video card.

Yea, I'm planing on getting a fx 9590, and the asrock dosent support it, nor does it have an extra cpu power plug.

DON'T GET A 9590! IT IS NOT WORTH IT! Please don't, this legitimately makes me sad.

I've heard that those are power-hungry space heaters, you might just want to stick to OC'ing an 8350

I'm not getting it anytime soon. Probably in a couple of years or so, for an upgrade to my fx 6300. By then the price will be much lower.

But it's terrible, especially in a few years. It's already worse than a mid-tier i5. In three years, an i3 will be able to destroy it.

Yea mabey. I might go for the zen arc after ut has a couple of years to get popular, and good boards, and cpus come out for it.

If you're planning for the future, plan for Zen.  By that point FX will be only a legend that we'll tell our kids.. okay yeah maybe just a legend..

I don't really care man. I love over clocking, and you can get a lot out of amd cpus for a lot less than intel. I mainly see it as a challenge.

Number-wise maybe, just because it's big doesn't mean you know what you're doing with it  :P

So this is just for fun or are you actually going to use this PC? I say this because pulling a 5.2 GHz OC on a G3258 will be much more fulfilling than a 5.2 GHz OC on that hot chip.
