So if I have an ssd in my build for certain games and OS. Why dont I get a SSHD for the rest of my files. the price is relatively similar in NZ. So I was wondering is the HDD better in any way ? Or can I just get an SSHD. Also need to think about loudness. how loud are they?

SSHD will only really make your most used files quicker at loading etc, after much thought on the matter I decided a 6tb HDD would be much more worth it.

Either that or a massive SSD.

just get SSHD, both run at 7200RPM so they sound the same, i cant even hear my 7200RPM spinning lol

so it will be slightly faster so no downsides really

I just have a 500gb ssd planned and just want 1 or 2tb of drives so an SSHD will make it snappier makes sense.

As for speed there is a small speed bump for a sshd no where near that of a true ssd.

As for sound they still have the components of a hdd so same db

i think you should just get a ssd and a hdd the price of a sshd just docent justify it and your better of getting a more reliable hdd

I  have GameServer`s And VOIP servers the only price is that you have fun on them.

It will only make files you access on a regular basis faster, not the entire drive I don't think, thats how the first lot of SSHD's worked unless that has changed and I missed the updates to them. Would just be better to get a large storage device if you're going to be storing a lot. Rather have 6TB and not need the extra space than have a 2TB SSHD and need more space.

Still think it's depending on how often the file is accessed so if OP is using it purely for storage it won't make that much of a difference.

so games would be slightly faster. I can afford just buying another sshd later

Depends on the games, some need to connect to the server and download maps etc etc so you might see an improvement of load times ever so slightly unless they're offline games and you're playing them a lot of the time?

It wont really effect games, most SSHDs only have like 8GB of flash - and since almost every game is bigger than 8GB, unless you play the same game every day, it wont matter

It only caches regularly used files, so if you are constantly loading different games, you will not benefit

Best to just either get more SSD space for games, or get a bigger drive for more storage IMO

~snip~

Hey there ThatOneRussian,

Hybrid drives are good for single-bay computers that are used mainly for just a few things. These drives have a small SSD portion (usually 8GB) that stores the load files of the most commonly used applications for faster load times. The drive itself decides what is used more with an algorithm so you don't really have the decision power over that. Everything else works pretty much as if it was on a regular HDD (if not slower).
On another note, gaming relies on the storage's performance only for the loading times and autosaves. FPS and graphics are not affected at all so you'd gain little to none if you use a SSHD instead of a regular HDD.
Since you already have a large SSD for your moredemanding applications and games, I would say a regular HDD would make more sense. :)
