Different sockets. Motherbords that are 1150 are only compatible with 1150 socket chips.

so if im going to switch ,and it looks as i haven't much choice as it seams to be the general consensus the intel is better for gaming, i would like to know is ther  anything that AMD is good for other than "budget builds"

Some video editing and stuff. NOt gaming wise. It some can outperform intel cpus but only on video editing and rendering. That's about all

look up video reviews. Stick with last gens, which are 1150 socket. An i5 4690k is the strongest 85 in the 110 series.

  • GPU or CPU what should i upgrade first
  • CPU FX-6350
  • GPU R9 285
  • PSU Corsair RM1000I
  • im on a tight budget so i cant do both

Get a new CPU, but if you do plan on getting a new GPU, go with the R9 Fury X Fanless. This will keep the GPU temperatures nice and low with AMD's GPU water cooling

2011 are the most powerful, but 1150's are the best bang for the buck. I did't spend any where near 4k on my system unless you count screens and peripherals and I am on a 2011, x79 setup up. Z series boards with k chips will allow you to over clock if you want to, and normally they come with a few more extras than h boards do.

Well that's a small step to having a huge impact or boost on performance. Once you get the fury x, you should be good, especially with that i5
