hello hello hello,

So its time for me to upgrade my cpu, im going from a fx-8150 (i think its sort of broken since it runs at 60 degrees with medium loads).

After reading up some stuff on the internets i concluded (tell me if im wrong) that buying pre skylake cpu's is not very smart, so i wanted to get the i7-6700K.

And then the confusion began, i have to get a new motherboard and memory aswell, I know that it has to be socket 1151 and that DDR4, but there is so much choice in motherboards and memory brands, models, etc.

So please help me pick them.

What i look for in a motherboard:

I basicly dont care about looks of motherboards since my case is pretty much completly closed.

I want to be able to overclock the CPU a bit but nothing extreem or limit breaking.

Things like thunderbolt and usb type c are useless to me.

Things like 1 button overclocking and a lot flashy lights to help check stuff is not important.

"low" price is the most important factor

RAM has pretty much the same demands:

dont care about looks

not crap quality

"low" price

thanks for helping

asus is good for the 1 button overclocking but i would recommend tuning it yourself, you can leave the voltage on auto and up the cpu ratio pretty easily and get better results than software enabled overclocking

i would go with their z170a, relatively cheap and has a decent feature set and for ram just find the kit that gives you the amount you want at the cheapest from a reputable manufacturer and go for it

CPU: i5 6600k @ 4.6 ghz  Motherboard: Asus z170-a  Cooling: Corsair h80i GT GPU: EVGA GTX 970  Ram: G.Skill 2x8 gb ddr4 2400  PSU: EVGA G2 Supernova 550w  Case: Corsair 200r Storage: 250GB 850 EVO + 2x wd 1 tb drives

1 more thing... if you go with a lower end board it may still use ddr3 so make sure you pay attention, the z170a uses ddr4 but something like the z170p still uses ddr3

I was looking a this RAM before: https://www.alternate.nl/Corsair/16-GB-DDR4-2400-Kit-Werkgeheugen/html/product/1180450?tk=7&lk=17221

is there any major diffrence or is one of these brands "better"?

No, not really, the HyperX is a bit lower in height than the Vengance,

Don't start a post without pc specs.

how does the ASUS z170a compare with the MSI Z170a gaming M3? (the M3 is a bit cheaper)
