My Asus R5E needs an 8-pin and a 4-pin to the CPU, but the PSU comes with 2x 4+4-pins.

Can I remove 4 cables from 1 of the 4+4 pins, without any problems?

The cables dont overlap each other, so the only difference is that there will be 4 connectors that are not in use at the PSU end.

Yes, I can just hide one of the 4-pins behind the motherboard, but I just want to check if I can remove the extra cables.

I speak my mind, sorry if thats a problem.

Basically what you said you can just hide the extra 4 pins on the EPS connector that aren't used behind the motherboard tray, it's why the cable is split like that.

So go the safe route and hide the cable then?

I don't think you need the extra 4 pin connected unless you are going for extreme overclocks. It should run fine with just the 8 pin.

The manual says it needs both, so I will use both.

Yes that would the easiest way to do it, if you wanted to unpin the connection on the PSU side I guess you could and get rid of the extra wires completely but make up a diagram and label the wires if you ever decide to have it go back as original.
